Ah, Spring - the perfect time to enjoy Orlando "The City Beautiful" while networking with your peers and learning more about the latest trends in perinatal social work. The Orlando NAPSW Conference Committee is busy preparing for your visit to the 27th National Conference on Perinatal Social Work from April 30 to May 3, 2003.
This year's conference - "Navigating the Course for Perinatal Social Work Through Turbulent Waters" - will feature a number of work sessions focusing on critical issues. Among the topics: Follow-up of substance exposed infants; adoption; family centered environment in the NICU; bereavement; ethics; DSM IV diagnosis and treatment; infertility; and postpartum depression. General sessions will address liability, cultural issues, a physician's perspective on perinatal social work, and the practice of social work in challenging times.
By the time you read this, you should have received the "save the date" postcard. The conference brochure should be mailed by February 1st. The conference will be held at the Grosvenor Resort in the Walt Disney World Resort, a terrific location within walking distance of Downtown Disney, a market of shopping, dining, and entertainment. Complimentary transportation is available from the hotel to the Disney theme parks, and other attraction highlights of Orlando are also within easy access. If you want to venture further, only an hour's drive away you'll find the beaches, Tampa/St. Petersburg and the Kennedy Space Center.
This is a great opportunity to bring family for a fun vacation. The hotel room rate is an incredible $109 single/double, plus applicable taxes. The room rate may be available for the three days before and after the conference. All reservations must be made by March 29, 2003 to obtain the conference rate. You can start planning now to make a little magic at this spring’s 2003 National Conference on Perinatal Social Work in Orlando. Featuring a lineup of exciting speakers, general sessions and workshops, the 27th annual event will take place April 30 to May 3 at the Grosvenor Resort in the heart of Walt Disney World’s entertainment mecca. At an economical rate of $109 a night, the price, quality and convenience can’t be beat. You’ll be only a minute’s free shuttle from the Disney attractions - Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom - and a mere stroll away from Downtown Disney, the night-life complex featuring venues such as the internationally-renown Cirque du Soleil, Wolfgang Puck’s Cafe and the House of Blues.
But the world’s theme-park capital also has a smorgasbord of nearby attractions to visit: The excitement of Universal Studios Florida, the diverse eateries of Universal CityWalk (Emeril’s, Hard Rock Cafe, NBA City, etc.), the Shamu shows of Sea World and the swim-with-the-dolphins fun of Discovery Cove; not to mention the International Drive area, with its various dining, shopping and entertainment venues.
Along with Mickey, Spider-Man and Shamu, Orlando’s most recent star is the Mall at Millenia, a new upscale shopping mall which has received worldwide attention for its European design and fashion icons such as Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Neiman Marcus and Tiffany & Co. Combine the new mall with nearby Florida Mall, which has Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and Lord & Taylor, and you’ll see an Orlando that has become a world-class shopping destination.
Away from the tourist crowds, Central Florida also offers many other alternatives - Downtown Orlando’s night-club and restaurant scene; Winter Park’s tony Park Avenue district (upscale shops and restaurants); and Maitland’s Enzian Theater (art-house films) - among others.
Beautiful lakes and award-winning golf courses are within easy driving distance. Only an hour or so west are Busch Gardens and the Gulf Coast beaches of Tampa-St. Petersburg. About an hour to the east - Daytona Beach, Cape Canaveral and the Space Coast.
So you’ll have many options for fun and relaxation, a chance to retreat, regroup and re-energize. Between the dynamic location and in-depth professional program, we think the 2003 conference will prove to be a memorable one for you.
